Rick Blasgen, President/Chief Executive Officer
Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP)
Rick D. Blasgen is the president and chief executive officer of CSCMP, serving in the association's Lombard, Illinois, USA headquarters. Mr. Blasgen began his career with Nabisco where he held various logistics positions in Illinois, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. He was appointed senior director, product supply, and later, became vice president of supply chain for Nabisco in 1998. Until mid-2003, Mr. Blasgen led Kraft's supply chain management programs and initiatives. In 2003, he joined ConAgra Foods, Inc. as senior vice president of integrated logistics.
Blasgen received a BA in business administration with an emphasis in finance from Governors State University.
Edward Huller, Immediate Past Chair of the Board of Directors
Edward Huller, president of Alden Consulting Group, was named to the office of Immediate Past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals on October 23, 2007. Mr. Huller has over 35 years experience in chemicals, plastics, agricultural, and pharmaceutical businesses on a global basis. In 2000, he formed Alden Consulting Group, which helps companies develop and implement supply chain strategies, strategic sourcing initiatives, and recruitment of key business leaders.
Previously, Huller served as vice president, global supply chain for Borden Chemical, Inc. where he led a restructuring process to align with multiple business units' strategies, resulting in dramatically improved business performance. He recruited a team of highly talented professionals that continues to drive improvements in procurement, logistics, and operations planning. Huller began his career at The Dow Chemical Company in corporate logistics in 1970. He rose through management ranks as a member of both US and global business management teams. He retired from Dow in 1999 as global supply chain director of Chlor-Alkali, VCM/EDC.
Huller is a frequent speaker at industry and professional conferences like CSCMP, ARC, ChemWeek, and Supply Chain Forum, as well as guest lecturer at various universities. He is APICS-certified and holds a BS degree in logistics management from the University of Maryland.
Richard Murphy, Jr., Chair of the Board of Directors
Richard Murphy, Jr. was elected Chair of the Board of Directors on October 23, 2007. As president and chief executive officer of Murphy Warehouse Company, a supply chain logistics and transportation services provider for domestic and international clients, Murphy represents the fourth generation of family management and ownership in the business, which was started in 1904. His company is ISO 9001-certified, and in 2003, it became OSHA MnSHARP-Certified, the first warehouse to achieve this national designation.
Mr. Murphy received a Master of Landscape Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design in 1980, an MBA from the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management in 1986, and a bachelor of landscape architecture and bachelor of environmental design from the Institute of Technology in 1975. He is a licensed landscape architect in Minnesota.
Murphy is currently chair of the Executive Committee at the Center for Transportation Studies at the University of Minnesota. 2007 marked his 21st year as an adjunct professor at the College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. He previously served on the board of the International Warehouse Logistics Association and has been actively involved in ergonomics. He testified at the OSHA Ergonomics Hearing in Washington, DC, the US Department of Labor's Public Forum on Ergonomics, and at the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry's Ergonomics Review Board.
Roger W. Woody, Board Chair Elect
Roger W. Woody was recently elected as CSCMP’s Board Chair Elect. He is supply chain strategy for EMBARQ Logistics, a 109-year-old company with a new name that separated from Sprint Nextel in May of 2006. The company offers a complete suite of communications services to consumer and business customers in 18 states. In addition, EMBARQ Logistics provides supply chain solutions to its core telecom business and to nonaffiliated telecom customers. Mr. Woody has worked in the logistics and supply chain management professions for over 20 years. Associated with Hallmark Cards, Yellow/Roadway Corporation, Delfour, and Sprint, Woody has managed business development, supply chain and inventory process development improvement, marketing, operations, procurement, and project management and sourcing for third party logistics, transportation, retail, and distribution organizations. Woody also serves on the Kansas State University School of Management and Business Advisory Council and the Kansas University Supply Chain Management Business Advisory Council. He has taught supply chain management classes at the University of Kansas and is a frequent speaker at various colleges and universities in and around Kansas City. Woody received his BA degree from Baylor University and his MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management. He is an active member of CSCMP’s Heartland Roundtable, as well as its first president. Mr. Woody served as a Roundtable Advisor for several years and as Roundtable Chair on CSCMP’s Board of Directors for four years before assuming the position of Board Vice-Chair last year.
Robert Silverman, Board Vice-Chair
Robert B. Silverman, vice president, IT business systems for Tommy Hilfiger USA, Inc., was elected to the office of Board Vice-Chair of CSCMP's Board of Directors in October 2007. He oversees the development and support of information technology systems that support product de-sign, supply chain operations, and finance at Tommy Hilfiger USA, one of the worlds' most recognized fashion apparel brands.
Prior to joining Hilfiger, Mr. Silverman was president of Gross & Associates, a logistics consulting firm headquartered in Woodbridge, New Jersey. Gross specializes in areas such as sup-ply chain network optimization, distribution center sizing and design, operations improvement, and computer simulation modeling. At Gross & Associates, he directed hundreds of consulting assignments in Europe, Asia, and South America, as well as throughout North America.
Silverman is a past president of the Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC). He served on CSCMP's Board of Directors for the past four years, most recently as the organization's 2007 Secretary and Treasurer.
Keith Turner, Secretary and Treasurer
Keith Turner, general manager, alumina and bauxite sales for ALCOA, Inc., was elected to the office of Secretary and Treasurer of CSCMP's Board of Directors. At ALCOA, he has responsibility for the purchase and sale of bauxite and sales of smelter grade alumina. Turner also manages the Alcoa Steamship organization and implements strategies for the movement of alumina, bauxite, and other materials.
In his previous role, Mr. Turner was vice president, logistics and transportation for ALCOA, with accountability for transportation sourcing and contracting, logistics solutions, international transportation, trade compliance, and freight payment. He also led the North American Logistics Lead Team, comprised of the top logistics professionals in the business units.
Turner joined ALCOA as director, international transportation and systems with the Reynolds Metals Company acquisition and was named to his previous position in November 2003. He began his career at Reynolds in 1974 as a buyer in the corporate purchasing department and held various assignments in the purchasing and logistics areas at the plant, business unit, and corporate levels. In 1987, Turner was named purchasing director of materials for Reynolds. He later became director of transportation for the company. At the time of the acquisition by ALCOA, he was director, procurement and transportation.
A native of Richmond, Virginia, Mr. Turner earned a BS degree in commerce from the University of Virginia and an MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Turner is a past member of the National Freight Transportation Association and the Manufacturers Alliance Logistics Council. He was president of CSCMP's Central Virginia Roundtable and a member of CSCMP's Roundtable Advisory Committee.
